Watch Has Sold
This restored 1971 Grand Seiko Hi-Beat Automatic 5646-7010 with its Grammar Of Design case is a breathtaking. This watch was only sold in the Japanese market and thus makes it quite rare in North America. This 1971 Grand Seiko is the forefather to modern Grand Seiko watches you see being sold today. This Grand Seiko features a beautiful and even patina on the dial which appears butterscotch in color. The watch features a new mineral glass crystal, delicately cleaned dial and hands, restored original case, and a movement that has been overhauled and restored to OEM specs. The hand design for this reference are unique, with the minute hand being completely black–a true artistic piece. The watch comes with a new high end stitched genuine leather strap. The case features high polished surfaces and is inspired by Taro Tanaka’s Grammar of Design philosophy, which can be seen in many modern Grand Seikos today. The watch is in beautiful restored condition as per our extensive restoration and authentication process.
This Grand Seiko Hi-Beat features the Grand Seiko 5646 automatic movement with day and date. The Day can be selected by the wearer to appear in either English or Kanji. The watch runs at 28,800 vph, which in 1971, was considered a very high beat rate. The movement featured in this watch comes from an era when Japanese movements were starting to beat out many Swiss manufacturers in accuracy competitions, making it an interesting piece of history. There is a gold Grand Seiko medallion featured on the caseback that sits against your skin when you wear it.
The watch is 36.5mm in diameter but does wear slightly larger due to its shape. The strap is 18mm. The dial, movement, crown, case are all signed Grand Seiko. The buckle is signed Seiko. The caseback and crown have new gaskets and combined with the new crystal, this watch features mid-range water resistance.
If you’ve ever wanted a vintage Grand Seiko, this is an example that is hard to beat!
As with all our restored pieces we sell, this 1971 Grand Seiko Hi-Beat Automatic comes with our zero-headache warranty.
