The Zenith 408 watch movement features a rotor placed out of center and an integrated winding gear that contributes to its impressively thin design for its time. It incorporates a detached manual wind function and introduced the first screw balance, later replaced by a ring balance. Notably, the split stem for Ocean Star models cannot be detached by pulling the crown, but rather by turning the crown to the right angle until the movement drops out of the case. The movement includes automatic winding, a sweep second hand, and a date function set by changing 20-24 hours. The Zenith 408 movement was commonly used around 1963.
