The Gruen 790SS watch movement, produced from 1960 onwards, features an excenter regulator for the stud carrier and a patented double-excenter winding mechanism with jewelled rollers. Its jewel-bearing rotor ensures smooth operation. Additionally, the inclusion of an intermediate wheel between the minute pinion and the rest of the train allows for a large balance and a low-profile design without compromising durability. This layout also grants the flexibility to position the seconds wheel in either the center or as a sub-second function, requiring no further modifications. The movement is equipped with automatic winding and utilizes a sweep second hand.
