A decade or two before Gerald Genta designed the now famous Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, he was responsible for original Audemars Piguet Ultra-Thin. This 1963 Audemars Piguet Ultra-Thin is crafted in exquisite 18k solid gold that exudes sophistication and refinement that transcends time.

At the heart of this masterpiece lies a fully overhauled Audemars Piguet Caliber 2003 movement. The caliber 2003 was first introduced in 1953 and was a collaboration between AP, JLC, and Piaget. This revolutionary movement introduced a unique barrel mount design that eliminated the need for lower bridge support, allowing for the movement to be a mere 1.64mm thick. The barrel design has been used by AP in multiple movements since and can be seen in other modern movements from other manufacturers as well.

The original dial is a beautiful textured eggshell and shows well with a few minor blemishes due to time and wear that are visible in the photos. The gold hour and minute hands are beautiful and sleek stick hands that complement the thin minimalistic hour markers perfectly.

Measuring at 32mm diameter, the watch is considered small by modern standards, but was a fairly normal size for mens watches in the 1960s. The watch does wear larger due to the minimal bezel design and large dial and would work on most wrist sizes. Our recommended wrist size is 5.5″ to 7″.

The watch is signed Audemars Piguet on the dial, case, caseback, and movement. A new acrylic crystal is installed and the crown is the original unsigned crown. The charming inscription on the caseback is preserved and is a lovely reminder to the wearer of the watch’s history.
